Self-esteem refers to how you feel about yourself. A person with high self-esteem will feel good about themselves most of the time, be aware that they are important to others, and have high self-worth. A person with low self-esteem may feel that they are less important than others or that they are not wanted or needed by anyone; that without them, nothing would change and no-one would care. Self-esteem may be related to how we perceive ourselves in terms of body image, intelligence and our relationships with others. Self-esteem is incredibly important in terms of how we view ourselves, and how we view the world.

Low self-esteem can be linked to many other difficulties, such as depression and anxiety. Building on your self-esteem and developing a higher opinion of your own self-worth may be incredibly important, and help you turn away from a path which may lead to further difficulties.
